New CMA Member: Ann Marie
For singer/songwriter Ann Marie, the road from her family’s farm in Oxnard, Calif., involved some unforgettable milestones once she arrived in Nashville.
“I’ve cleaned toilets. I’ve waited tables I’ve nannied. I’ve done everything,” she said. “But then I started showing up at writer’s rounds, joining BMI, handing out my demo – and then people started calling and saying, ‘Hey, can you come and sing on this demo for me?’ Eventually I started writing with these people too.”
Like Spock on “Star Trek,” Ann Marie considers her last name unpronounceable and chooses not to use it. But at this point, it hardly matters.
“People around town know me simply as Ann Marie,” she explains. No surprise: She’s written with Jay DeMarcus, John Rich and Danny Myrick, and opened for Dierks Bentley, Big & Rich, Easton Corbin, Darius Rucker and Josh Turner, among other headliners.
One thing she hadn’t done was sign up at CMA’s newest member. That oversight was corrected on Tuesday, July 23 – a much more enjoyable and beneficial milestone than many she’s passed on her way to finding her niche in Music City and recording her first album, now in progress.
