HUNTER HAYES TARGETS 24-HOUR CONCERT RECORD
In a campaign to battle child hunger, 2013 CMA New Artist Award winner Hunter Hayes is teaming with ConAgra Foods and planning a grueling 24-hour concert marathon in May.
“Hunter Hayes’ 24 Hour Road Race to End Child Hunger” begins on the ABC Television Network’s “Good Morning America.” His live set on the air begins at 8 a.m. EST Friday, May 9; then, he and his band dash from Times Square to eight more venues along the Northeast coast. When they wrap a 5 a.m. set on May 10 at Philadelphia’s Trocadero, they will have broken the Guinness World Record for most concerts played in multiple cities in a 24-hour period.
The record is currently held by the Flaming Lips, who crammed 10 shows into 24 hours, breaking the previous record set by Jay-Z.
In a New York Times interview, Hayes, who has been working with ConAgra on Child Hunger Ends Here since 2012 said he “was astonished by the statistics” from Feeding America that more than one in five American children “aren’t sure where their next meal is coming from. Awareness is key with something like this, but just as important is that everyone can pitch in to make this story a better story — and how easy it is for us to help.”
The “24 Hour Road Race” is also presented in part by Martin Guitar, Proctor & Gamble, Mercedes-Benz USA, and Ahold USA. Hunter is a Martin Guitar ambassador and will perform on a Martin OM-42 at each show, which will be auctioned at the end of the event to benefit the cause. Mercedes-Benz USA is the official car vehicle of the “24 Hour Road Race”.
While Hayes sets his sights on setting the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® record for the most concerts in one day, Child Hunger Ends Here is issuing a challenge to break their own record for the most meals donated in 24 hours. To help us break this record and end child hunger, look for the red pushpin and locate the code found on specially marked ConAgra Foods products. For each 8-digit code entered at www.ChildHungerEndsHere.com, ConAgra Foods will donate the monetary equivalent of one meal to Feeding America.
