Aside from his 12 studio albums, number one single “Achy Breaky Heart,”role as Miley Cyrus’ dad and starring roles in television shows Doc and Hannah Montana, Billy Ray Cyrus will now be known for his appearance in a film that was released this morning right along with the kick-off of CMA Fest.

The film backed by SkipStone Pictures and Risen Media tells the tale of a young country singer, Jake Reeson played by  Joel Smallbone of the Christian band For King and Country . He has made his way into Country music and his careers is on the rise before his ego gets too big to allow for growth and success. On top of his career being on the verge of failing, his mom drops a big secret on him telling him that his dead father (Billy Ray Cyrus) is actually alive. To make matters worse his ex-girlfriend keeps reappearing into his life unexpectedly.

The movie covers tough topics as Jennifer Taylor (Reeson’s mother) stated her role was difficult for her to play as a mother. In a question and answer session at the CMA Close Up Stage in Fan Fair X, the actors got together to reveal not only about the movie but also about their personal lives.

The discussion was casual as a fan asked if Billy Ray Cyrus was going to play “Some Gave All” the title track from his album released in 1992. He treated the fans in a short a capella performance of the song leading up to cheering from the hundreds of onlookers.

The actors were asked about where they are from and if they miss home.  Joel, hailing from Australia, answered quickly stating his love for Australia but how kind the Nashville citizens have been since he moved here and that he is “quite fond of it.” The all seemed to share a love of Music City where the movie was filmed at many locations unique and special to Nashville.

They made sure to include venues: Station Inn and The Listening Room along with recording studio Tater Shack. The soundtrack was made of songs exclusively from specific publishing companies on Music Row that the producers thought fit the theme of the movie. Tammy Hyler was a big factor in the soundrtrack and wrote most of the songs. They put an emphasis on the soundtrack as necessary with any music based movie, after all Billy Ray Cyrus chose to be a part of the movie because he thought the storyline would make a great country song.

Be sure to see “Like A Country Song” as it hits theaters this Friday, June 6th 2014.
